Competitive Bass Fishing Club

At Clarkson University, experience world-class bass fishing minutes from campus.

We’re located right next to the St. Lawrence River, where great fishing is only minutes away.  Our proximity to the St. Lawrence River — just 30 minutes from campus — allows Clarkson students to regularly fish all year round. St. Lawrence County is known as a “county for all anglers." Consider the possibilities: downrigging for muskies at Massena, ice fishing for yellow perch and northern pike at Chippewa Bay, jigging for walleyes on the Raquette River reservoirs, canoeing for smallmouth bass on the Grasse River, flyfishing for brown trout on the St. Regis River, small boating for lake trout at Trout Lake and rainbows at Star Lake, trolling for trophy brook trout at Cranberry Lake, jigging for black crappies and casting for largemouth bass at Black Lake, and hiking the wilderness for native brook trout swims, or casting that 12-foot pole to fight with the mighty carp.

So, where do you start? Whether you’re a casual fisher, or you are looking to competitively fish alongside other top-rated collegiate teams, the Clarkson University Competitive Bass Fishing Club welcomes you and serves as your all-encompassing introduction to our region’s bass fishing activities. Fishing at the collegiate level is an opportunity that we will not be given at any other point in our lives, and we want our anglers to be able to get the most out of this experience.

About Bass Fishing

We love the feeling of a fish on the line. We were founded in 2017 and have grown tremendously since then. We have a world-famous bass fishery, the mighty St. Lawrence River, in our backyard. Our anglers compete in B.A.S.S., ACA, MLF, and many other local tournaments. We had teams place 4th and 13th in the 2021 Carhartt Bassmaster College National Championships. Our anglers have a next-level dedication and love for tournament bass fishing!

Teams of two (2) will compete in the FLW and BASS college tours for a chance to compete at nationals yearly. In addition, we host our own in-club tournaments to facilitate getting our anglers out on the water.

Meet Our Coaches

Head Coach - Donnie Duprey ‘18, an original member of the team. Donnie is a very experienced bass fisherman who knows the St. Lawrence River like no one else. He has plenty of tournament experience and is excited to help our team grow exponentially!

Associate Coach - Dante Piraino ‘21, served as the Vice President and President of our club during his time at Clarkson University. Dante was a part of the team that placed 13th in the 2021 Carhartt Bassmaster College National Championships on the St. Lawrence River. Dante has helped shape this team into what it is today and he is excited to help us continue to make a name for Clarkson University in the collegiate sport of Bass Fishing!

Where We Go

The NY Bass Nation Youth tournament trail is one of the ways that our club competes to qualify for the Strike King Bassmaster College National Championships. This trail allows for our anglers to compete locally against other schools in the state while still allowing us to make it into national championships. These tournaments occur on lakes such as Owasco, Oneida, Niagara River, Oswego Harbor, and more.

With a schedule that takes us all around the North Country and Upstate New York to places like Oneida, Cayuga, Ticonderoga, Henderson, and Massena.

This tournament series provides us regional anglers with a professional-grade bass tournament platform to compete in, gain publicity, and earn extra cash.

Participating in the world’s largest tournament-fishing organization's schedule of events.

This series is a College Bass Fishing tournament putting the best young fishermen up against each other to defend their schools.

2 Time Hosts of the Carhartt Bassmaster College Championship

Clarkson University hosted the 2021 Carhartt Bassmaster College National Championship presented by Bass Pro Shops from August 12th-14th, 2021. With 125 total teams from colleges all over the country participating, it was a tall task for Clarkson's two teams to conquer the St. Lawrence River in Waddington, NY.
